Enzo

A sunny Sunday morning at the weekend saw me at the Warren Classic and Supercar Show in Woodham Walter, Essex. This annual event is one of the most diverse car shows on the calendar and features a huge variety of cars including vintage racing cars, club and enthusiast classics and a wonderful supercar display

I arrived early at the golf club venue, to be greeted by a line of pristine Aston Martins spanning several decades, their proud owners frantically polishing them. A beautiful DB4 with its sparkling chrome wheels and immaculate engine immediately caught my eye. It was interesting to see an Aston Martin Lagonda there too – complete with 80’s styling! After a browse around the Jaguar and Bentley clubs a cavalcade of modern supercars ensued.

The main drive to the clubhouse was lined with spectators as the supercars revved all the way down - much to the delight of many excited children. Up so close it was clear why these iconic cars attract so many admiring fans. To be in such proximity of a Bugatti Veyron, Pagani Zonda and Ferrari Enzo in one place, is rare opportunity for most individuals! It was also refreshing to see the owners allowing people to sit in their cars too and talking ‘nuts and bolts’ with the more knowledgeable spectators (anoraks as some may say!).

Then I saw the car I was hoping to see, a stunning 1960 Alfa Romeo 6C 3000CM ‘Superflow IV’ – a one-off Pininfarina styled car, driven previously by racing driver Fangio in the Mille Miglia. Quite rightly, this won ‘best in show’ and was my favourite car of the day. As a genuine car enthusiast I was in my element at the Warren – where there was something for everyone to admire.

But it wasn’t all ‘top-end’ shiny exotica, and present were many enthusiasts displaying their own cars. I saw lines of beautifully kept American muscle cars through to lesser-known European, iconic classics - many of which I suspect will be insured with ERS!

Talking to many owners throughout the day, it was evident that there is a growing fan base for classic cars, and it’s hard to describe the passion and level of dedication these owners put into their pride and joy. For me, the show was thoroughly enjoyable, enlightening and educational in fact, and has certainly recharged my passion for all things on 4 wheels.
