UK specialist motor insurer ERS DGB is pleased to announce the appointment of Peter Bilsby as Group Chief Executive Officer. From 1 November 2020, Peter will work alongside Ian Parker to ensure a smooth transition into the full role as soon as possible, subject to the usual regulatory approvals.
Bilsby joins from AIG where he was Global Head of Specialty and served as a member of AIG’s International Leadership Team. Prior to AIG, Bilsby was CEO of Talbot and Head of the Insurance Segment for the Validus group.
ERS is also pleased to announce the appointment of Richard Hextall in the newly created role of Group Chief Financial Officer. Richard will undertake his activities at group holding company level.
Hextall has over 30 years of experience in insurance markets. He was the Group CFO of Amlin plc from 1999 to 2017, where his leadership responsibilities included the finance, investments, actuarial and operations functions.
In conjunction with these new appointments, ERS is announcing plans to expand its core business, building on its existing platform to enter specialist commercial insurance lines, whilst maintaining its focus on motor insurance. ERS will announce specific product lines and additional hires to its existing team in due course.
Jeff Greenberg, Chairman and CEO of Aquiline and Chairman of ERS DGB, commented: “ERS is uniquely positioned to benefit from the significant dislocation we are seeing in the market by leveraging its team of top-tier executives, married with the strength of the existing ERS platform. We are delighted to welcome Peter Bilsby to lead the firm into its next stage of growth, bringing unrivalled experience in our key target markets.
The Board and I would like to express our thanks to Ian. Not many CEOs could have overseen and delivered such a significant transformation. We are enormously grateful and wish him all the best in future endeavours.”
Peter Bilsby added: “I am extremely honoured to be given the opportunity to take ERS into the next phase of its evolution. This is a truly unique opportunity to support a great company in its next chapter of growth and to work with Aquiline again. We are excited about the opportunities that lie ahead. I would like to thank Ian and his team for their extraordinary efforts which has placed ERS in a very strong position from which to build.”
Ian Parker commented: “After seven years at ERS, I’ve achieved what I set out to do and will be leaving ERS in the strongest position it has ever been in. There are too many people to thank, but I would like to thank Aquiline, without whom ERS would not be here today. I am confident that the next chapter for ERS will see the company go from strength to strength and I look forward to handing over to Peter.”
