This initiative aims to open doors to new underwriting careers for talented individuals based in Wales.
In April, our inaugural group of trainee underwriters began their journey in a programme that blends practical training with academic studies, leading to industry-recognised insurance qualifications accredited by the Chartered Insurance Institute (CII). Participants also gain invaluable insights into the insurance sector and operations at Lloyd’s of London during their time on our trainee programme.
Our Swansea office, located in the spacious Crucible Park in Swansea Vale, is home to nearly 500 dedicated employees. Since our substantial investment in Swansea in 2014, we've been committed to enhancing local employment opportunities, aiming to become one of the top employers in South Wales's financial sector.
The Trainee Underwriter Programme builds upon the success of our Underwriting Academy, launched in 2020, which has diversified career paths for both existing employees and local talent. Designed to be rewarding, challenging and enjoyable, the programme integrates seamlessly with our wide range of roles, including claims, project management, business analysis, IT, counter fraud, personal injury, and risk governance.

Cameron Jackson’s journey exemplifies our commitment to career progression. Beginning as an underwriting assistant in Swansea, he advanced through the Underwriting Academy to become a qualified underwriter, eventually relocating to our City of London office. Cameron also praises our supportive culture and the enriching nature of underwriting and, highlighting the diverse and wide ranging career pathways in underwriting, said “There will always be a demand for insurance and underwriters, making this career choice both rewarding and secure.”
